We are proud to announce that The Middleton Group has won two AIA South Carolina Honor Awards in the categories of Adaptive Re-use and Historic Preservation. Blue Acorn 2 received an Honor Award for Adaptive Re-use, and The Gadsden House received an Honor Award for Historic Preservation.
Blue Acorn 2
The design responds to the work culture of Blue Acorn with an open office concept and flexible work pods fostering a collaborative work environment. The project is an adaptive reuse of an industrial metal building warehouse into technology sector office space.
The primary programmatic elements were to provide plentiful, controlled daylight to what was previously a dark metal building while creating both interior and exterior meeting spaces that allow for impromptu encounters and interoffice interaction to help foster the day to day creative processes.
The Gadsden House
Built circa 1798 by Revolutionary War hero and continental congress delegate Christopher Gadsden, the Gadsden House is a grand, Federal-style Charleston manor listed on the National Historic Register. This historic property recently completed a full restoration of the exterior, interior, and grounds to be converted into an event space available to the public. All restoration work was completed with the partnership and guidance of the Historic Charleston Foundation. The house was listed by both the Preservation Society of Charleston and the Historic Charleston Foundation as one of the top historic properties to save and restore.
